ABSENCE & PRESENCE/PRESENTS
Absence & Presence/Presents is one of two installations produced while on a residency initiative developed in collaboration with Trinidadian artist Shanice Smith. In many ways, this work represents a continued material exploration of sanitary napkin wrappers and could be viewed as an extension of the earlier installation, If You Miss Me.
Once again, emphasis was placed on pushing the boundaries of what could be done with this material in a sculptural sense and what other forms the work could possibly take. During production, the chair became a major unifying element in both installations and was included to encourage the viewer to consider the implications of its presence in relation to the sanitary napkin wrappers.
